Where Can I Find Help?

Clutching my phone in my hand, I stared blankly into the distance. Painful thoughts of my unwanted divorce swirled through my mind. Without realizing it, I squeezed my phone just a little too long, and suddenly Siri’s familiar voice interrupted my thoughts.

“What can I help you with?”

Startled back to reality, I almost laughed. But the question lingered.

What do I really need help with? More importantly, where does my help come from?

Life changes, and not always in ways we expert. Relationships can quietly drift apart and come to a painful end. A doctor’s diagnosis can change everything in a moment. Finances can become uncertain. Children can make choices that break our hearts. Suddenly what once felt stable no longer does.

The psalmist answers the question we all ask in seasons of uncertainty:

“I lift my eyes to the hills- where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 121: 1-2 NIV.

What a comforting reminder.

In the midst of pain and fear, a deep comfort can be ours when we realize that we have help from the Creator of heaven and earth. He knows each one of us personally. He is there to guide our footsteps and make sure that our feet are on solid ground.

“He will not let your foot slip–He who watches over you will nor slumber nor sleep.” Psalm 121: 3 NIV

The One who created the heavens and the earth is the very One who watches over us. He never grows weary, He never looks away. He never misses a moment of our lives. While we sleep, He remains awake. While we wonder what tomorrow holds, He is already there.

Knowing this doesn’t mean we never feel afraid, It means fear no longer has to lead us.

I’ve learned that I can feel afraid without living afraid. Fear can become an invitation to lift my eyes to Jesus instead of becoming consumed by my circumstances. Rather than scrambling to fix everything myself or searching for security somewhere else, I can choose to trust the One who promises never to leave me. He steadies my steps, even when the path ahead seems uncertain.

Sometimes God gently reminds us of His presence in the most unexpected ways–even through an accidental conversation with Siri.

So the next time Siri asks, “What can I help you with?” I hope I’ll smile and remember the greater truth:

My help comes from the Lord.

Father, Thank You for being my constant source of help. When fear tempts me to look everywhere but to You, lift my eyes again. Steady my feet when the path feels uncertain, quiet my anxious heart, and remind me that You never stop watching over me. Thank You for Your faithful love and Your constant presence. Help me to trust you one step at a time. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
