Today, I step out into unknown territory and courageously embark upon a new adventure. It’s odd how we can think that we are on a firm, well-lit path that has been scripted with clear signs, and our journey is unfolding exactly as we planned, and then all of a sudden we round the bend and nothing is familiar. The ground is rocky and unstable, the path is hidden and dark, the signs are blurry, and nothing is familiar. To be sure, this new path is scary, unsettling, lonely and vulnerable, yet I will embrace it and walk forward courageously.
To be perfectly honest, I have never written anything more than my personal journal. Why would anyone want to read my thoughts and musings of life? What if I were to step out and do something so seemingly unattainable? As I struggle to quiet these negative thoughts roaring in my ears, I bravely state out loud, “I will not allow negative thoughts to condemn me into silence!” These harmful thoughts playing like a broken record in my ear are not from my Creator, they are from an enemy who wants me to give up and fail before I even begin. But God never leaves me unequipped. He strengthens me in my weakness.
Earlier this morning, my phone lit up with a message from a group text with a link to the Hillsong UNITED song, “Not Today!” Listening to the words, I began to feel courageous as the song proclaimed, “Let the Devil know not today!” I have put off starting this journey too many times because I have feared that I will be judged or I am not good enough to write coherently to communicate and touch others for Jesus. Well, Jesus is walking with me and I am not listening to any negativity and condemnation today. I am listening to the voice of Jesus speaking into my life. I am not listening to the negative voices in my head – No, not today!
So as I hit the publish button for my first entry, I throw confetti into the wind and celebrate my first step. So, let the party begin as I celebrate walking into His light! Cue confetti, horns, champagne, and don’t forget the cake! I am moving forward, taking one step at a time!
Colleen, congratulations on your very first blog!!! I so enjoyed reading your very first blog. It is a good reminder for me to keep the worldly things out of my life and keep my focus on what God wants for me!
